Work with community partners to establish a Seniors Advisory Committee that will provide advice on planning and issues for older adult programs and services.

The Region of Waterloo Seniors Advisory Committee is an advisory committee established to advise and assist Council through Regional Staff regarding matters which have a direct or indirect impact on older adults. 

The committee provides a venue/forum for stakeholder and community input to improve the quality of Regional services for seniors. The committee also provides advice and feedback on policy, planning and services delivered by Seniors' Services and other Regional Divisions/Departments supporting seniors. Regional Council approved the Terms of Reference and appointed Councillor Haalboom as the Council representative for the committee in June 2011.  Social Services requested further assistance from the area municipalities to recruit five citizen members for the committee in September 2011.  Regional Council appointed the members to the committee in December 2011 and meets six times per year.

Progress Update (September 2013)

Early in 2011 the Social Services department worked in partnership with the area municipalities to develop a Terms of Reference for the Region of Waterloo Seniors Advisory Committee. The Terms of References specifies that the purpose of the committee is to provide counsel and advice to Regional staff, and through staff, to Regional Council in respect to Regional planning and services impacting seniors. The committee also provides a venue/forum for stakeholder and community input to improve the quality of Regional services for seniors, in addition to providing advice and feedback on policy, planning and services delivered by Seniors' Services and other Regional Divisions/Departments supporting seniors. Regional Council approved the Terms of Reference and appointed Councillor Haalboom as the Council representative for the committee in June 2011. Regional Council appointed members to the committee in December 2011 which is co-chaired by Regional Councillor Haalboom and the Commissioner of Social Services. The Seniors Advisory Committee held its inaugural meeting on January 27, 2012 and continues to meet six times per year.
